Community Spotlight:
The Malabrigo Community Library
By Aliza Dueñas Carpio
The Malabrigo Library is a gift to the community by the Sulit-Duenas family which was established in late 2013. It is located in the Pook region in the town Malabrigo Lobo, Batangas.
Education and lifelong learning is an important value in the Sulit-Duenas family. The intention of the library is to provide a place where community members, both young and not so young can read, study and discover. The air conditioned space, the books, laptop (for research) and Wi-Fi are all provided for free through donations from friends and family in California and in the Philippines.
The Malabrigo library is managed by Sheryl Angelo. Sheryl is the librarian who has been the only staff member since its inception. Sheryl reads to children who visit the library and also tutors students with their homework.
The library hours are Wednesday to Saturday, from 1- 5 pm. The library is closed during major holidays such as Holy Week, Christmas Week and New Year’s Day. The library is equipped with Wi-Fi which makes it easy to conduct research and if you don’t have one, there is a laptop available for limited use.
We hope that you come and visit the library. Take a respite from the heat and check out the myriad of books and magazines in its floor to ceiling shelves.
